About the Role

City Walk Ltd is recruiting an Inventory Accountant to manage stock accounting across a multi-branch retail operation in Nairobi. This is a full-time position based in the capital city, offering a structured accounting role within a established footwear and lifestyle retailer. The Inventory Accountant at City Walk Ltd will report to the finance team and work closely with inventory control to ensure accurate stock valuation and GL reconciliation across the head office and branch network.

The role spans end-to-end inventory accounting responsibilities, from transaction verification at the central warehouse through to 38 branch locations. You’ll own the monthly reconciliation cycle, manage customer and branch returns processing, and ensure all inter-branch movements are correctly reflected in the general ledger. This position is suitable for someone with hands-on experience in multi-location retail or FMCG accounting and strong technical skills in ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Reconcile inventory transactions from the central warehouse and all 38 branch locations to the general ledger on a monthly basis
• Conduct physical stock verification and sign off final inventory balances with the Inventory Controller, ensuring ledger accuracy
• Process the complete returns-to-credit cycle for both customer refunds and branch stock adjustments
• Verify branch stock records against head office ledger balances and investigate discrepancies
• Record inventory provisions and adjustments in accordance with accounting standards
• Prepare supporting schedules and reconciliations for the monthly close process
• Work with the ERP system to extract, validate, and report on inventory data

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Supply Chain Management
• Minimum 3 years of inventory accounting experience in retail, FMCG, or distribution sectors, with proven exposure to multi-branch operations (5 or more locations)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis
• Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or Enquest
• Solid understanding of inventory valuation methods (FIFO, weighted average, standard cost) and the preparation of inventory provisions
• CPA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification, or active enrollment in a professional accounting body
• Prior experience in fashion, footwear, or cosmetics retail is advantageous
• Familiarity with warehouse management systems and inter-branch transfer accounting
