About the Role
Momentum Credit is recruiting a Credit Officer for a full-time, on-site position in Nairobi. In this role, you will evaluate loan applications, assess borrower creditworthiness, and manage credit portfolios throughout their lifecycle. The Credit Officer at Momentum Credit works directly with applicants and existing borrowers to process requests, verify financial standing, and maintain compliance with lending standards.
This is a hands-on position within the credit administration function. You will spend time on financial analysis, client communication, and account management. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to make sound credit decisions based on documented evidence and policy guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate the creditworthiness of loan applicants by reviewing financial statements, income documentation, and credit history
- Conduct formal client interviews to gather information and assess repayment capacity and willingness
- Prepare detailed credit reports that summarize findings, recommend approval or denial, and outline terms and conditions
- Process and manage credit applications from submission through approval, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate
- Monitor loan disbursement schedules and track repayment patterns to ensure borrowers meet their obligations
- Take corrective action on delinquent accounts, including issuing notices, negotiating payment plans, and escalating where necessary
- Build and maintain professional relationships with borrowers to encourage timely repayment and reduce default risk
- Ensure all credit decisions and documentation comply with company credit policies and regulatory requirements
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Demonstrable knowledge of credit assessment methodologies and the ability to analyze financial statements
- Experience preparing credit reports and explaining credit analysis to both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of credit policies, compliance standards, and loan management best practices
- Proficiency in financial analysis and risk assessment techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to conduct interviews professionally
- Strong analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail in documentation and record-keeping
- Previous experience in the financial services industry is advantageous
