About the Role
MGallery Hotel Collection is recruiting a Bartender for its Nairobi location. This is a full-time position within the Food and Beverage Department, where you will be responsible for crafting and serving beverages to guests while maintaining the high service standards expected in luxury hospitality. As a Bartender at MGallery Hotel Collection, you will work in a structured setting where precision, product knowledge, and customer service excellence are equally important. You’ll manage the bar counter, handle cash transactions, and contribute to the training and development of junior staff members. This position offers exposure to premium spirits, cocktail preparation, and the operational demands of a high-volume beverage service outlet in one of Nairobi’s established hotel properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve beverages according to established recipes and service standards consistent with luxury hotel operations.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all bar products, cocktail recipes, and spirits inventory to advise guests accurately.
- Execute suggestive selling techniques with each guest interaction to increase beverage sales and enhance the guest experience.
- Perform opening and closing procedures for the bar outlet, including stock checks and mise-en-place preparation.
- Ensure the bar counter and surrounding areas remain clean, organized, and properly stocked throughout service periods.
- Handle all cashiering functions and point-of-sale transactions while adhering strictly to outlet accounting procedures.
- Manage garnish preparation and presentation for cocktails; display premium liquors on shelves with proper stock rotation.
- Respond to guest inquiries and resolve service issues in a courteous and efficient manner, building positive relationships.
- Monitor operating supplies, reduce spoilage and wastage, and participate in monthly and quarterly inventory audits.
- Train new staff members through hands-on instruction and support their development in bar operations and service standards.
- Assist with banqueting department duties and rotate through other Food and Beverage sections as needed.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management to support departmental operations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven bartender experience in a professional hospitality setting; experience in luxury or upscale venues is essential.
- Prior customer service experience at a high-end establishment, demonstrating understanding of premium service standards.
- Successful completion of server position training program or equivalent bartending certification.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and cash handling procedures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to remain calm and professional under pressure during busy service periods.
- High degree of responsibility and reliability; ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain accountability.
- Flexibility to adapt across different Food and Beverage sections and to rotate shifts as required by operational needs.
