Key Responsibilities
- Build and establish project accounting frameworks, including chart of accounts structures, job coding systems, cost center definitions, and cost allocation methods aligned with IFRS standards and company policy requirements.
- Create and maintain budgeting structures, standard costing templates, and multi-level approval workflows to control spending across project activities.
- Conduct monthly budgeting cycles, variance analysis, and forecasting for both capital and operational expenditure across all project phases and work streams.
- Track project cost-to-complete metrics, flag cost overruns early, and prepare corrective action recommendations for project leadership.
- Generate rolling cashflow forecasts by coordinating with procurement and operations teams to align spending commitments with available cash.
- Compile weekly and monthly financial reports covering profit and loss statements, work-in-progress accounting, cost variance narratives, committed versus incurred cost breakdowns, and project margin analysis.
- Build financial dashboards and performance indicators to monitor project health and support management decision-making.
- Manage revenue recognition processes for time-and-materials contracts, lump-sum agreements, and unit-rate pricing in line with contract terms and accounting standards.
- Oversee client billing cycles, process change orders and contract variations, manage retention and claims, and reconcile client accounts to resolve billing disputes.
- Validate invoices from subcontractors and equipment suppliers against contractual terms and progress claims documentation.
- Partner with procurement teams on cost compliance oversight and payment milestone tracking to ensure contract adherence.
- Ensure full compliance with IFRS, Kenyan tax law, environmental levies, and sector-specific reporting obligations.
- Support statutory audits, tax filings, and regulatory submissions related to project activities and maintain audit trails.
- Oversee asset capitalization, depreciation schedules, asset disposals, and fixed asset register maintenance for project equipment and infrastructure.
- Configure and maintain ERP systems (Odoo) for project cost tracking, financial reporting, and management information.
- Drive automation of recurring financial reports, dashboards, and analytical processes to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or related discipline; professional certification (CPA(K), ACCA, or CIMA) is preferred; postgraduate qualification (MBA or MSc Finance) is advantageous.
- Minimum 5–8 years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 3–5 years in dedicated project accounting or cost control roles.
- Prior experience in upstream oil and gas, EPC contracting, energy, or heavy industrial project environments is strongly desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding of contract accounting across time-and-materials, lump-sum, and unit-rate contract structures.
- Hands-on experience with revenue recognition, work-in-progress accounting, cost-to-complete forecasting, and project financial statement preparation.
- Solid working knowledge of IFRS standards and Kenyan tax and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency with ERP platforms (Odoo preferred) and advanced Excel modeling for budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
- Competence in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cashflow forecasting methodologies.
- Working understanding of procurement processes and subcontractor invoice verification and validation.
