About the Role

National Bank of Kenya is recruiting two Audit Manager Commercial Functions & Branch Network professionals for its Nairobi headquarters. This is a full-time position within the bank’s internal audit function, reporting to the Head of Commercial Functions & Branch Network Audits. The role involves planning and executing audit assignments across the bank’s commercial operations and branch network, with responsibility for assessing compliance, evaluating control systems, and reporting findings to senior management.

The bank maintains a substantial branch network and manages significant commercial operations. This audit role is critical to ensuring that internal controls, risk management frameworks, and regulatory compliance standards operate effectively throughout these functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and complete specific audit assignments in consultation with the Head of Commercial Functions & Branch Network Audits, adhering to approved audit plans and defined timelines.
  • Participate in risk assessment processes for Commercial Functions & Branch Network audit areas, documenting control issues identified and formulating quality recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of risk-based annual audit plans that detail the scope, nature, and timing of audit activities.
  • Review systems established to assess compliance with policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, reporting whether the organisation meets required standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management systems operating within Commercial Functions & Branch Network to identify gaps or weaknesses.
  • Develop appropriate audit testing methodologies and programs in consultation with audit leadership to achieve defined audit objectives.
  • Report audit findings on control deficiencies, procedural non-compliance, policy violations, and regulatory breaches to senior management.
  • Conduct continuous monitoring reviews as scheduled and follow up on audit action plans to ensure timely closure of identified issues.
  • Support colleagues by sharing audit expertise with team members involved in Commercial Functions & Branch Network assurance work.
  • Maintain awareness of market intelligence and business dynamics through stakeholder engagement and data analytics to inform risk assessments.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related discipline from a recognised university.
  • ACCA or CPA finalist status (completion of professional examinations required or in progress).
  • Membership of ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) in good standing is preferred.
  • Membership of IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) or ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) in good standing is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ professional experience in internal audit, risk management, control frameworks, or governance-related roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage several concurrent audit assignments while prioritising competing demands effectively.
  • Strong analytical capability to process multiple information sources and prepare data-driven reports for senior leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate findings to stakeholders at all organisational levels.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to assess business strategies, their alignment with organisational objectives, and implementation effectiveness.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to keep pace with evolving audit requirements and emerging industry trends.
