About the Role

Lami is recruiting a Junior Finance Associate to join its Finance team on a full-time basis in Kenya. You will provide direct support to the Finance Manager and Head of Finance, handling core accounting operations across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bookings processing, and General Ledger maintenance. This is a foundational role in keeping Lami’s financial operations accurate, compliant, and audit-ready as the company scales across Africa.

The Junior Finance Associate at Lami position offers genuine scope for advancement. High performers will move into more senior finance roles as the organisation grows, with exposure to regulatory work, cross-border transactions, and the full lifecycle of a scaling fintech operation. If you’re seeking accounting jobs in Kenya with clear progression, this role provides both structure and opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices, validate them against purchase orders and contracts, prepare payment runs, reconcile vendor statements, and address supplier questions in Accounts Payable.
  • Generate customer invoices on schedule, track receivables ageing reports, chase outstanding balances, and correctly post customer payments in Accounts Receivable.
  • Record daily journal entries, maintain accurate General Ledger records, and perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, intercompany transactions, and control accounts.
  • Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including the preparation of supporting schedules and reconciliation documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Help with Kenyan regulatory and statutory compliance, including VAT returns, PAYE, Withholding Tax, NSSF, and NHIF/SHIF filings under the direction of the Finance Manager.
  • Support audit readiness by gathering required schedules, documents, and supporting evidence, and responding to queries from internal and external audit teams.
  • Ensure strong quality control over all financial transactions, supporting documentation, and filing systems to maintain effective internal controls.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of practical experience in a finance or accounting role, preferably within a fast-growing startup, fintech business, insurance company, or audit practice.
  • Working knowledge of double-entry accounting principles, AP and AR workflows, and General Ledger management.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud-based accounting platform; knowledge of Xero or Zoho Books is particularly valued.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and basic financial modelling.
  • Understanding of Kenyan tax requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and Withholding Tax processes, and familiarity with iTax filings.
  • Prior experience in insurance or fintech sectors is beneficial but not essential.
  • Currently pursuing finance qualifications (CPA, ACA, etc.) is an advantage but not required.

What to Expect

  • A competitive salary package and hybrid working arrangement: 3–4 days per week in Lami’s Nairobi office, with 1–2 days working remotely.
  • Real ownership of your work and a clear career trajectory into more senior finance positions as Lami expands, with exposure to audit, regulatory, and multi-country finance operations.
  • A collaborative team environment centred on Lami’s mission to increase insurance access across the African continent, working alongside product, engineering, operations, and commercial colleagues.
