About the Role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is recruiting an Intern – Information Technology (IT) to support its digital infrastructure and stakeholder management systems. This internship position in Kenya offers hands-on experience in website management, database administration, and communications support within a multilateral UN environment. The role sits within UNEP’s Major Groups and Stakeholders unit, which coordinates engagement with civil society organizations and accredited partners globally.
As an Intern – Information Technology (IT) at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), you will work on both technical and administrative tasks that directly support the organization’s web presence and stakeholder relations. This is a rolling-basis internship open to students enrolled in or recently completing an IT-related degree program.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and executing updates to organizational websites, including content review and deployment
- Add new accredited organizations to the website and edit existing organizational records in the database
- Upload documents and resources to designated repositories, ensuring proper file organization and metadata
- Revise and maintain civil society webpages to reflect current information and organizational standards
- Support the registration workflows for UNEP meetings, including compilation and management of participant lists
- Design and administer client satisfaction surveys, then analyze results and prepare feedback reports for senior management and the Committee of Permanent Representatives
- Prepare accreditation memoranda for organizations requesting official status with UNEP
- Facilitate communications between UNEP and its accredited Major Groups and Stakeholders in accordance with UN regulations and procedures
- Maintain and update internal databases tracking Major Groups and Stakeholders engagement
Requirements & Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Data Science, or Cybersecurity—OR—enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in a related field—OR—recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in one of these disciplines
- Proof of current enrollment or graduation certificate must be provided at the time of application
- Proficiency with standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams
- Ability to write news articles and social media content (desirable but not required)
- Experience or competency in designing surveys and polls (desirable but not required)
- Prior professional work experience is not mandatory for UN internship applicants; however, academic field of study must align with the internship focus
