Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the internal audit, risk management, and compliance functions within the organisation.
- Design and implement internal audit charters, strategies, and operational manuals that establish procedures and reflect industry best practices.
- Create comprehensive audit plans and programs that systematically cover all business activities and operational areas.
- Conduct risk-based internal audits on a timely schedule and report findings and recommendations to the board of directors.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of financial reporting processes, operating procedures, and adherence to established organisational policies.
- Assess whether the institution’s resources are used economically and efficiently, and recommend control improvements to strengthen internal systems.
- Identify, evaluate, and monitor financial, operational, and strategic risks; develop and maintain a risk management framework; and advise management on mitigation strategies.
- Ensure the organisation complies with SASRA regulations, bylaws, and all statutory requirements; conduct compliance audits; and keep management informed of regulatory changes.
- Test disaster recovery and incident management programs and advise on areas requiring improvement.
- Investigate suspected fraud or misconduct, develop fraud detection programs, and implement fraud awareness training across the institution.
- Provide secretariat support to the Audit and Supervisory Committees and participate in strategic planning and policy development.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce with specialisation in Accounting or a related discipline, combined with CPA (K) certification, or equivalent ACCA or CPA (K) qualification.
- Minimum five years of audit experience in a substantial or complex organisation, preferably within a Sacco or other financial institution.
- Strong working knowledge of SASRA regulations and established risk management frameworks.
- Demonstrated proficiency in accounting software packages, financial systems, and general computer applications.
- Membership in good standing with ICPAK or an equivalent professional accounting body in Kenya.
- CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) certification is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Sacco-specific software systems and platforms is an asset.
