ICT Associate at UN Women – UN Women Kenya Job Details
About the Role
UN Women is recruiting an ICT Associate for its Nairobi office. This is a full-time position offering hands-on technical support across hardware, software, and network infrastructure. You will be the primary IT contact for the Nairobi office, managing day-to-day technology operations and liaising with global IT teams to maintain corporate standards and service levels.
The ICT Associate at UN Women will support a diverse, multicultural workplace. You’ll work with end users across the organization, manage IT assets, maintain network systems, and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives. This role requires someone comfortable troubleshooting issues independently while knowing when to escalate to specialist teams, and someone who can communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle first-contact technical support through phone, email, chat, and walk-in requests; log all incidents in the ITSM tool with appropriate priority levels and communicate resolution status to users promptly.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues; escalate complex problems to global IST teams and track resolution through to completion.
- Deliver first-level support for corporate applications including Quantum ERP, PRISM, and Microsoft 365; route functional or system-level issues to headquarters teams.
- Install, configure, and maintain UN Women standard ICT hardware and software; apply security patches and OS updates as directed by the global helpdesk and ensure compliance with ICT policies.
- Monitor local network infrastructure (LAN, Wi-Fi, connectivity); troubleshoot basic network issues and coordinate with internet service providers and host agencies on shared infrastructure.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all ICT assets in Nairobi; support procurement by providing technical specifications and managing equipment registration and disposal through the asset management system.
- Deliver training on computing and productivity tools to staff; support onboarding by provisioning accounts, equipment, and mandatory security training for new personnel.
- Provide technical setup and support for video conferencing, meetings, and hybrid events using MS Teams, Zoom, and similar platforms; manage and maintain conferencing facilities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of secondary education (required); Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of IT infrastructure, including hardware components, networking basics, and operating systems (Windows, Mac, or Linux).
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 end-user support and basic administration; familiarity with ITSM tools and helpdesk ticketing workflows.
- Ability to troubleshoot common hardware, software, and connectivity issues; demonstrated judgment in knowing when to escalate versus resolve locally.
- Foundational understanding of information security principles, including endpoint protection and access controls.
- Strong client-service orientation with ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users; experience working in a multicultural environment.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload; ability to work effectively with remote supervisors and across distributed teams.
- Relevant IT certification or professional training (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft fundamentals, or equivalent) is an asset.
What to Expect
- You will work as part of a distributed UN IT team, receiving guidance from remote supervisors and collaborating with colleagues across multiple time zones.
- The role involves hands-on technical work, user interaction, vendor coordination, and regular reporting to global IST teams on office-level IT status.
