About the Role
Kenya Tea Packers Limited is recruiting an ICT Assistant – Network Administration to join its Information and Communications Technology department. This is a full-time position based in Kenya, reporting directly to the Head of ICT. The role combines hands-on network management with security assessment responsibilities, requiring someone who can maintain reliable connectivity across the organization’s offices while identifying and addressing IT vulnerabilities.
The ICT Assistant – Network Administration will support critical infrastructure, oversee day-to-day network operations, and contribute to the company’s broader IT security and risk management framework. You will work closely with the Database Administrator and other technical teams to ensure systems remain secure, performant, and compliant with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate network performance by monitoring connectivity metrics including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency to maintain optimal service delivery.
- Plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT equipment across the organization.
- Monitor network communications and resolve connectivity issues by implementing preventive measures for IT networks, systems, and software applications.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments using industry-standard IT security tools and methodologies, then report findings and recommendations to the Head of ICT for remediation.
- Design network specifications by consulting with end users, analyzing workflow requirements, access patterns, and security needs to configure routers and routing protocols.
- Maintain network performance through continuous monitoring, analysis, performance tuning, and escalation of unresolved technical issues to vendors.
- Secure network access by developing access control measures, maintaining monitoring documentation, and periodically reviewing firewall rules and logs.
- Support the ICT Manager in recommending policy updates, including Disaster Recovery Plans, IT strategy, and Business Continuity procedures.
- Manage the ICT helpdesk system by logging, updating, and tracking support requests to ensure timely resolution for all users.
- Provide user training and documentation support on network access and software applications.
- Coordinate with vendor support contacts to review Service Level Agreements and resolve issues with end-user hardware, software, MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet connectivity.
- Ensure all PCs, laptops, and servers operate on licensed and updated operating systems with current endpoint security software.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum two years of experience in network administration roles.
- Current network security certification such as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker).
- Hands-on experience with network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting across diverse platforms.
- Practical knowledge of router installation, configuration, and fault resolution.
- Strong understanding of network connectivity, integration, and protocols.
- Proficiency with operating system and database installation, upgrading, and performance tuning.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to solve complex IT problems effectively.
