About the Role
Synnefa Green Limited is an agri-tech company based in Nairobi that develops agricultural solutions including smart solar dryers, smart greenhouses, and a FarmCloud SaaS platform. The company works with cooperatives, county governments, NGOs, and agro-processors across Kenya to simplify farming through technology. The Fundraising Intern at Synnefa position is a freelance internship role within the Grants & Partnerships team, designed to support the organisation’s funding pipeline and funder relationships.
In this internship in Kenya, you will report to the Grants & Partnerships Lead and collaborate across marketing and technical teams. Your work will span grant opportunity identification, proposal development, donor reporting, and funder engagement. This is a hands-on role that exposes you to the full lifecycle of grant funding in the agritech and development sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and track funding opportunities by scanning calls for proposals and grant pipelines that align with Synnefa’s mission, and maintain an updated opportunities tracker
- Draft and compile funding applications, including concept notes and full proposals, for review by the Grants & Partnerships Lead, applying best practice proposal structures
- Prepare donor reports, evidence packages, and compliance documentation to support accountability to funders
- Coordinate funder visits by designing site experiences and logistics that effectively communicate Synnefa’s mission and founding story
- Create impact-focused content for funder audiences in collaboration with the marketing team
- Support pitch calls and funder engagement sessions with the tech team and contribute to ideation of fundable projects
- Assist in developing and maintaining a funder newsletter to keep partners informed of organisational progress
Requirements & Qualifications
- Recent graduate (within the last 12 months) with a degree in Development Studies, Economics, Agribusiness, Communications, Public Policy, Business, or a related discipline
- 0–1 years of professional experience, with exposure to grant writing, donor reporting, research, or fundraising through coursework, volunteer work, or previous internships preferred
- Strong written English proficiency and demonstrated comfort working with data and performance indicators
- Competent in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets and slide design tools
- Well-organised, deadline-focused, and willing to travel to project sites and events
- Background or demonstrated interest in agritech, climate solutions, development, or social enterprise is valued
