About the Role

Caritas MFB is recruiting a Finance Assistant to join the Finance Department in Nairobi on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Strategy, you will be responsible for supporting core finance operations including ledger reconciliations, vendor management, payables processing, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on accounting position suitable for someone with 2+ years of finance or accounting experience and a solid foundation in financial controls.

The Finance Assistant at Caritas MFB will work with the core banking system to manage day-to-day financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and ensure timely settlement of obligations. You will coordinate with vendors, branches, and internal teams to keep financial operations running smoothly and in line with company policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify received goods against purchase orders and supporting documents to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with external vendors and service providers.
  • Perform monthly and periodic reconciliations on assigned general ledger accounts and escalate outstanding issues for prompt resolution.
  • Investigate financial variances by gathering and analyzing account data to identify root causes and correct discrepancies.
  • Organize and secure finance documentation, ensuring proper filing and safekeeping of all records.
  • Submit statutory returns for customers and suppliers in accordance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Process employee imprests and operational expense claims following established authorization procedures.
  • Review and validate vendor invoices, purchase orders, pricing, payment terms, and charges before payment processing.
  • Manage accounts payable transactions using the core banking system, including separate entities and multiple vendors.
  • Ensure vendor bills are processed, approved, and paid on time while adhering to internal controls and departmental procedures.
  • Record accounting transactions, maintain account schedules, and reconcile payables ledgers monthly.
  • Update and monitor vendor statements and daily financial activity records.
  • Upload foreign exchange rates to the system and communicate updates to branch offices.
  • Prepare account balance summaries and liquidity reports; process cheques for courier in transit (CIT).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Business Management, Business Administration, or a related business discipline (mandatory).
  • CPA Kenya Intermediate Level or CPA Section IV qualification (mandatory).
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in a finance department, accounting firm, or financial institution.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet functions and data analysis.
  • Competence in using core banking systems for transaction processing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Ability to manage multiple reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items independently.
