About the Role

Optimum Hospital is seeking a Billing Officer for its Nairobi facility. This is a full-time position in the accounting department responsible for managing hospital billing operations, insurance claims processing, and revenue cycle activities. The successful candidate will ensure accurate and timely billing across multiple revenue streams including corporate accounts, insurance providers, and individual patients.

The Billing Officer at Optimum Hospital plays a central role in the financial operations of the healthcare facility. You will work closely with clinical departments, insurance companies, and finance teams to process claims, maintain patient accounts, and ensure compliance with healthcare billing regulations including the Social Health Authority (SHA) framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and submit insurance claims to SHA and private insurance providers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with each scheme’s requirements
• Generate and send invoices for corporate billing accounts, tracking payments and following up on outstanding balances
• Manage the revenue cycle from patient registration through claim settlement, identifying and resolving billing discrepancies
• Maintain patient billing records in the HMIS system, entering charges accurately and updating account statuses as claims progress
• Liaise with insurance companies and corporate clients to clarify billing queries and expedite claim approvals
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly billing reports for management review, highlighting trends and outstanding claims
• Coordinate with clinical departments to obtain necessary documentation for claim submission and appeals

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Health Records Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field
• Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in hospital billing, insurance claims processing, or healthcare revenue cycle management
• Working knowledge of SHA, insurance billing procedures, and corporate account management
• Proficiency with HMIS (Hospital Management Information System) software and Microsoft Office applications
• Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify billing errors and implement corrective actions
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial documentation and data entry
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a customer service orientation toward internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively as part of the finance and clinical teams
