About the Role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is recruiting interns for its 2026 Internship Programme across Africa. This is your entry point into the United Nations system, where you will contribute to food security, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience initiatives. The FAO Internship Programme 2026 (Africa) – Applications Open welcomes students and recent graduates from across the continent to apply their academic training in a real-world setting.

Based in Kenya, you will work with an organisation that shapes agricultural policy and development across Africa. The internship runs between 3 and 11 months, depending on the placement. Eligible candidates receive a monthly stipend where applicable. Your field of work will align with your academic background—whether that is agronomy, environmental science, nutrition, economics, or related disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

• Support FAO teams on projects related to sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives
• Contribute to research, data collection, and analysis on agricultural development or climate-related topics
• Assist in the preparation of reports, policy briefs, or project documentation
• Participate in field visits and stakeholder engagement activities where applicable
• Support coordination of programmes aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
• Work across multiple departments based on organizational need and intern skills

Requirements & Qualifications

• Age 21–30 years at the time of application
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or postgraduate student, or a recent graduate
• Field of study relevant to FAO’s mandate (agriculture, environmental science, nutrition, economics, rural development, or related fields)
• Functional command of English or another FAO working language
• Citizenship of an FAO member country (Kenyan nationals are eligible)
• Ability to commit to the full duration of the internship programme
