About the Role

CIC Insurance is recruiting an Assistant Accountant – Payables to join its Financial Controls and Governance team in Kenya on a full-time basis. This is an accounting position that sits at the heart of supplier relationship management and cash flow control, reporting directly to the Group Head of Financial Controls and Governance. The successful candidate will manage daily accounts payable transactions alongside monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing routines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process supplier payments on time, accurately, and within agreed credit terms by verifying invoices against contracts and supporting agreements before ledger entry.
  • Review all supplier transactions for completeness and accuracy, confirming that invoices and authorisation documentation are properly processed before payment.
  • Build and maintain supplier invoice allocation schedules, directing operating costs to the correct cost centres according to established allocation methodology.
  • Create payment vouchers and track their movement through the approval workflow to ensure timely authorisation and processing.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations with key suppliers and maintain an up-to-date reconciliation schedule to catch discrepancies early.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of accruals and prepayment schedules for period-end closing.
  • Contribute to month-end financial closing by ensuring all accrual and prepayment journals are complete, accurate, and approved on schedule.
  • Address supplier inquiries regarding invoices and payment status in a timely manner to maintain good vendor relationships.
  • Prepare and process tax and statutory payments (cheques and electronic transfers) by their due dates to prevent regulatory penalties.
  • Generate and release accounts payable cheques or upload payment instructions to online banking platforms for approval and execution.
  • Assist with internal and external audit procedures, compliance reviews, and statutory examinations as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Between 1 and 3 years of hands-on experience in a high-volume accounting department or office environment.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification, with at least the intermediate level completed or in progress.
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable processes, supplier invoicing, and month-end closing procedures.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and online banking platforms.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
