About the Role
Emerge Egress Consulting, a respected design and construction firm, is recruiting an Architect (Build & Design) -Nairobi to lead architectural delivery across all project phases in Kenya. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Managing Director. The successful candidate will shape projects from conceptual design through construction completion, ensuring that design vision aligns with practical execution and client objectives.
The Architect (Build & Design) -Nairobi role sits at the intersection of design strategy and on-site oversight. You will manage stakeholder expectations, coordinate multiple technical disciplines, and maintain design integrity throughout construction. This position is suited to an architect with solid experience in design-build environments who can balance creative thinking with regulatory compliance and budget awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architectural concept development and manage projects from design phase through completion, ensuring alignment between design intent and construction reality.
- Convert client briefs and requirements into functional, coherent design solutions supported by clear technical documentation.
- Produce detailed architectural drawings, sections, specifications, and construction sets required for contractor execution.
- Create 3D visualizations, spatial diagrams, and presentation materials such as mood boards to communicate design concepts to stakeholders.
- Conduct regular site visits to verify that construction work matches approved design documentation and quality standards.
- Review and approve shop drawings, material samples, mockups, and technical submissions from consultants and contractors.
- Coordinate with structural, MEP, and other design consultants to resolve technical conflicts and integrate all building systems.
- Oversee interior planning decisions including lighting design, material finishes, furniture layouts, and material sourcing to support the overall design narrative.
- Manage design modifications and change requests while protecting project scope and quality.
- Monitor progress against budget and timelines, identifying cost-saving opportunities through material selection and value engineering.
- Ensure all designs comply with building regulations, zoning requirements, safety codes, and company quality standards.
- Support project closeout activities including as-built documentation and defect rectification.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in architectural and interior design projects, preferably in design-build delivery contexts.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and ArchiCAD; experience with 3D rendering tools is essential.
- Competency in MS Office and project management software.
- Sound knowledge of building codes, design standards, and regulatory compliance frameworks applicable in Kenya.
- Architectural license or professional membership (KICTAR or equivalent) is an asset.
