About the Role
Bible Society of Kenya is recruiting an Accounts Receivables professional for its Nairobi office. This full-time position sits within the finance function and focuses on cash collection, receivables management, and financial record-keeping. The role reports to the Lead Accountant and supports the organisation’s broader financial operations.
As Accounts Receivables at Bible Society of Kenya, you will manage the complete receivables cycle—from tracking outstanding invoices to following up on late payments and ensuring funds reach the bank on schedule. The position requires someone with solid accounting fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple collection priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and maintain a receivable aging analysis of all debtors, generating monthly reports to track payment performance against agreed payment terms and conditions.
- Process all receivable entries and journal transactions accurately and on time, including cash and cheque receipts into the accounting system.
- Verify that income transactions are recorded against the correct budget lines to prevent reconciliation delays and discrepancies.
- Draft collection letters for overdue accounts, identify delinquent account holders, and initiate contact to request settlement of outstanding balances.
- Issue customer statements at regular intervals to encourage prompt payment and reduce collection cycles.
- Arrange daily banking of all cash and cheque receipts to minimise cash-holding risk and ensure funds are available for operational expenditure.
- Maintain and regularly review reconciled customer account records to support accurate management reporting and informed decision-making by senior staff.
- File and organise sales documentation properly to enable quick retrieval and audit compliance.
- Reconcile amounts received against corresponding invoices to confirm payment accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Investigate and resolve customer payment queries and disputed account balances in a timely manner.
- Compile debtor and receivables reports with relevant commentary and recommendations for presentation to management.
- Report donations and new member recruitment data to the resource mobilisation office as required.
- Provide audit documentation and support during internal audit reviews as per the audit plan.
- Assist the Lead Accountant with monthly revenue account reconciliations.
- Process tenant billing invoices and maintain tenant account correspondence.
- Participate in budget and payroll preparation as directed.
- Reconcile the general ledger with other receivables balances monthly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related business field.
- CPA Section 4 certification or ACCA Part II qualification (or equivalent progress toward full designation).
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in an accounts department.
- Prior experience in accounts receivable management is preferred.
- Solid understanding of internal controls and procedures designed to protect organisational assets.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan tax regulations and statutory filing requirements.
- Competency in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software and standard computer applications.
- Must be a born-again Christian.
