About the Role

HI Home is recruiting a Cashier to join its retail operations in Nairobi. This internship position sits within the accounting and financial operations function, where you’ll manage point-of-sale transactions, handle cash reconciliation, and support the customer checkout experience. You’ll work directly with the sales team and store management to ensure accurate financial processing and compliance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Process all customer transactions accurately using cash, card, and mobile payment platforms
• Operate and maintain the Point-of-Sale system, ensuring all entries are recorded correctly and transactions are reconciled at end of shift
• Apply promotional offers, discounts, and customer loyalty rewards according to HI Home policy
• Balance the cash register daily, prepare deposits, and follow established financial controls to prevent loss or discrepancies
• Issue receipts, invoices, and vouchers with accuracy and attention to detail
• Deliver customer service at the checkout point by answering questions and resolving payment-related issues
• Keep the cashier station clean and organized to maintain a professional appearance
• Monitor transactions for signs of fraud or error and report any irregularities to your supervisor or manager

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• CPA qualification or active progress toward CPA certification is valued
• Proven experience working as a cashier in a retail setting
• Experience in electronics retail is advantageous
• Strong numerical skills and demonstrated ability to work with accuracy under pressure
• Competence with POS systems and payment processing software
• Excellent verbal and written communication for customer interactions
• Ability to maintain focus and perform repetitive tasks in a high-volume retail environment
