About the Role

K-Elec is seeking an Accountant 1 to join its finance team in Kenya on a full-time basis. This is an entry-level accounting position focused on managing day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the broader finance function. The Accountant 1 at K-Elec will work with transactional accounting, reconciliations, and reporting processes that keep the organisation’s financial operations running smoothly.

The role sits within the accounting department and requires a structured, detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple financial tasks independently while collaborating with colleagues across departments. You’ll be responsible for transaction processing, account maintenance, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. This is a desk-based position with exposure to accounting software, spreadsheets, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Input, record, and maintain all financial transactions in ledgers and accounting software systems.
• Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Cross-check invoices, expense reports, and supporting financial documents for accuracy and validity.
• Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, departmental budgets, and management reports.
• Ensure all transactions and processes comply with company policy, accounting standards, and legal requirements.
• Support external and internal audit activities by organising documents and providing explanations when requested.
• Help prepare and file tax returns and maintain organised records for all financial documentation.
• Assist with payroll processing tasks, including salary calculations, deductions, and tax withholding calculations.
• Monitor and report on accounts payable and accounts receivable balances and aging schedules.
• Work with other departments to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Professional accounting certification such as CPA I or an equivalent professional qualification.
• 5–7 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle.
• Strong numerical and analytical capabilities with the ability to prepare reconciliations and basic financial reports.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data entry and record-keeping.
• Solid organisational skills and time-management ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal colleagues and external stakeholders including auditors and vendors.

What to Expect

• This is an office-based role with standard working hours, though occasional overtime may be required during peak reporting periods or audit cycles.
