About the Role
UNICEF is recruiting for an Operations Associate, GS6 position based in Kenya. This is a full-time role supporting the Programme Risk Management team within the Regional Operations section of the East and Southern Africa Regional Office. The successful candidate will provide administrative and analytical support to ensure quality implementation of partnership management and risk oversight across country offices in the region.
The Operations Associate, GS6 at UNICEF will work on programme implementation procedures, HACT (Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfers) assurance activities, civil society partnerships, and social and environmental standards. The role involves extracting and analyzing data from UNICEF systems, preparing reports, and supporting the team’s mandate to strengthen programme and risk management at country level.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract, analyze and report data related to HACT assurance planning and execution across country offices, supporting priority-setting and improvement of related activities.
- Compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data from UNICEF systems to facilitate programme and risk management, including preparation of reports, presentations, and peer review contributions.
- Review programme assurance reports and HACT assessments to identify priority weaknesses and areas requiring follow-up or intervention by supervisors and country offices.
- Support the organization and delivery of meetings, webinars, training exercises and presentations related to partnership systems including UNPP, eTools and eZHACT.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators including partner risk ratings, CSO partner selection modalities, funding localization trends, impairment status, DCT compliance and financial findings.
- Maintain the Programme Risk Management team’s document repository, manage the team calendar and oversee the ESARO Peer Review Roster.
- Act as supply focal point for the Operations Section and coordinate the ESARO Events Calendar with relevant departments.
- Utilize data platforms and systems (Vision, RAM, InSight) to extract analytics that support decision-making and accountability reporting.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Secondary education as minimum; bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution in a relevant field, or equivalent professional qualifications combined with work experience.
- At least six years of administrative, clerical or office support experience.
- Demonstrated ability to create project plans, track resources and identify risks.
- Strong data analysis skills with ability to identify trends, patterns and anomalies in quantitative and qualitative information.
- Proficiency in written and verbal English; ability to produce clear, well-structured reports and communicate findings to different audiences.
- Competence with digital tools and platforms; experience using AI-powered tools to support data analysis and reporting is valued.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities and make decisions under time pressure.
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous experience in programme support functions or administrative roles within UN system agencies.
- Fluency in a second official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language spoken in East and Southern Africa.
- Professional experience at country level in development, humanitarian or fragile settings.
