Role Overview:

The Linguist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality translation and copy-editing tasks, along with on-demand video-related assignments. This position emphasizes adherence to specified deadlines and quality standards, ensuring compliance with the Language Process throughout task execution.

Job Description:

As a Linguist, your responsibilities include:

  • Performing on-demand translation tasks.
  • Engaging in transcreation, translation, and post-editing tasks.
  • Completing various translation-related administrative duties.
  • Handling project-related inquiries.
  • Preparing, managing, and maintaining language materials (e.g., glossaries, Style Guides, and work instructions) at the highest quality standards and keeping them up to date.
  • Collaborating with clients on linguistic matters as needed.
  • Fostering effective communication and resolving questions related to terminology and language matters within the team.
  • Participating in the development of new and improved work processes.
  • Assisting the team with arbitrations and providing LQE feedback.
  • Achieving the objectives set by the Swahili/Hausa Team Lead.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A university degree in Linguistics/Applied Languages.
  • Native-level fluency in Swahili, both written and spoken, as well as fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience as a translator in Mobile Apps, Search Engines, IT Consumer Products, Entertainment, Marketing, Software UI, and Websites is a valuable asset.
  • A keen sense of language in both source and target languages.
  • Familiarity with terminology in IT consumer products, social media, and entertainment.
  • A solid understanding of the localization process.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications like Windows, Office, and common CAT tools (e.g., SDL Studio, XTM).
  • The ability to quickly adapt to new localization tools and applications.
  • Effective presentation skills and the capacity to respond to inquiries from various stakeholders.
  • Strong time management skills to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to train and share knowledge with others.
  • The capability to work efficiently within a remote team.
