General Accountant at Penda Health Job Overview:

The General Accountant at Penda Health will be responsible for overseeing financial management and Financial accounting by ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of financial records, and overseeing financial controls. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, they will manage the reporting function of both Penda Health and its affiliated entities, payroll, and Fixed Asset Management.  Additionally, the role involves financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and stakeholder relationship management. The General Accountant will serve as a vital link between finance and other departments, collaborating to develop and execute financial strategies that align with the organization’s overall objectives.

General Accountant Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and coordinate the preparation of the monthly management accounts.
  2. Manage a comprehensive month-end closure processes schedule that outlines specific expectations, deadlines, and responsibilities for all involved departments, ensuring a coordinated and efficient month-end reporting process.
  3. Perform monthly revenue analysis and reporting, ensuring that revenue is accurate and complete.
  4. Check and Review the company’s Profit and Loss on a monthly basis to ensure that all the data has been captured in our reporting system.
  5. Produce financial statements including Individual and consolidated Medical Centers P&Ls, Support Office Cost Center reports, Variance analysis and commentaries.
  6. Accurately compute and timely filing of statutory payments (NHIF, NSSF, PAYE, AHL, NITA), post all statutory deductions by the end of each month.
  7. Conduct routine reviews of general ledgers to verify the accuracy and completeness of financial entries.
  8. Establish and maintain internal financial controls to prevent fraud, errors, and financial mismanagement.

Accountant Job Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a relevant field.
  2. Relevant professional qualification: ACCA/CPA/CA and membership in a relevant professional body – Required.
  3. Minimum of 5 years experience in a busy Finance and Accounting Department.
  4. Ability to work autonomously, detail-oriented, efficient, and able to multitask, prioritize, and follow projects through to completion.
  5. Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
  6. Ability to analyze financial data, interpret trends, and provide insights to guide financial decisions.
  7. Proficient in computer software, including Excel and other advanced accounting/ERP systems.
  8. Excellent leadership, task management, planning, and organizational skills.
