The Tour Consultant at Reeds Africa Consult will be the point person ensuring clients receive tailored travel experiences that match their objectives, timelines, and budgets.
The role demands someone with substantial experience in tour operations who can juggle multiple stakeholder relationships—from corporate clients to international hotel chains and airlines. You’ll be expected to deliver measurable results: 100% itinerary alignment, 98%+ service accuracy, and strong client retention. This is hands-on work that requires attention to detail, commercial acumen, and the ability to solve problems under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and tailor travel itineraries for corporate, leisure, MICE, and specialist travel groups, ensuring every proposal aligns precisely with client goals and allocated budgets.
- Oversee all aspects of tour operations—flights, accommodation, ground transfers, activities, and vendor coordination—to maintain a 98%+ accuracy rate in service delivery.
- Negotiate rates and terms with local and international travel suppliers to secure competitive pricing and protect profit margins.
- Maintain regular contact with clients before, during, and after travel to address concerns promptly, resolve issues, and build lasting business relationships.
- Coordinate between multiple suppliers and internal teams to ensure smooth execution of group travel arrangements.
- Track operational metrics and document lessons learned to continuously improve tour delivery standards.
- Manage specialist itineraries such as educational tours, business retreats, and incentive travel programs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management, Travel & Hospitality, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 7 years of verified experience working in tour operations or travel consultancy at an established travel agency or tour operator.
- Hands-on experience managing group travel, corporate travel programmes, and specialised itineraries (educational, business, MICE events).
- Professional certification in IATA, UFTAA, Tour Operations, Travel Consultancy, or GDS platforms (Amadeus, Galileo, or Sabre) is highly valued.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines and service standards.
