About the Role
Nyahururu Water and Sanitation Company Limited is recruiting for a Sewerage Attendant II to manage the daily operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities serving Nyahururu Municipality and surrounding areas. This is a full-time position based in Laikipia, requiring oversight of treatment systems, equipment, and operational staff to guarantee compliance with environmental standards and safe working conditions. As a Sewerage Attendant II at Nyahururu Water and Sanitation Company Limited, you will oversee wastewater treatment processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate maintenance activities across multiple plant systems. You will work closely with engineers, laboratory teams, and regulatory bodies to maintain service delivery and environmental protection standards in the water and sanitation sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operation of wastewater treatment plants and sewerage network systems to ensure continuous service delivery.
- Monitor treatment processes for compliance with standards set by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), water sector regulators, and company procedures.
- Arrange and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for wastewater treatment equipment and infrastructure.
- Review laboratory test results and operational records to assess wastewater quality and plant performance.
- Maintain comprehensive operational logs, maintenance documentation, and performance reports for regulatory and internal review.
- Supervise the safe handling, treatment, and disposal of sludge and other wastewater by-products according to environmental standards.
- Enforce occupational health, safety, and environmental protocols across all plant operations and staff activities.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures during equipment failures, sewer blockages, and plant malfunctions.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of wastewater operators and support staff under your supervision.
- Prepare work schedules, duty rosters, and maintenance plans to optimize resource utilization.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Wastewater and Sanitation Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, or Water Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in wastewater treatment operations or sewerage systems management.
- At least one (1) year of documented experience in a supervisory or leadership role within water or sanitation operations.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Certification in occupational safety and health (OSHA or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Ability to manage chemical dosing procedures and ensure safe storage and handling of treatment chemicals.
- Strong communication skills for liaison with engineers, contractors, laboratory personnel, and regulatory agencies.
