Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to women in labour, monitoring vital signs, progress, and fetal well-being throughout labour and delivery
- Assist clinicians during vaginal and operative deliveries, ensuring sterile technique and proper use of delivery equipment
- Conduct initial assessments of mothers and newborns in the immediate postpartum period, identifying complications and escalating concerns
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation for all patients, including partographs, delivery records, and postpartum observations
- Perform routine maternal and neonatal care procedures including catheterisation, wound care, and infection prevention measures
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, explaining procedures and providing emotional support during labour
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to prepare for emergencies and ensure rapid response to maternal or fetal distress
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution
- Minimum four years of professional nursing experience
- At least two years of direct experience working in a labour ward or obstetric unit
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) and valid practising licence
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC) training (preferred but not mandatory)
