About the Role
Equity Bank Kenya is recruiting a Manager- Compliance & Conduct to lead the execution of regulatory compliance activities across the organisation. This is a full-time position based in Nairobi, reporting to senior compliance leadership. The role sits within the legal and regulatory function and requires someone with deep knowledge of financial services compliance frameworks and the ability to manage complex regulatory change.
The Manager- Compliance & Conduct at Equity Bank Kenya will oversee compliance horizon scanning, regulatory obligations management, and issue remediation across assigned business areas. You will ensure the bank maintains consistent application of its Regulatory Compliance and Conduct Programmes in line with Central Bank of Kenya requirements, internal frameworks, and Group standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation and alignment of Regulatory Compliance and Conduct Programmes with applicable regulatory requirements, internal frameworks, and Group standards across assigned business areas.
- Drive operationalization of Regulatory Compliance and Conduct frameworks across business units, ensuring consistent policy application and adherence to defined procedures.
- Monitor and track regulatory developments and changes, support impact assessments, and coordinate with stakeholders to identify implications for the bank’s operations.
- Provide technical support on regulatory interpretation, review change impact assessments, and validate compliance outputs for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain and enhance the Regulatory Obligations Register, ensuring accurate mapping of regulatory requirements to control measures in collaboration with business and functional stakeholders.
- Identify, assess, and escalate compliance breaches, policy exceptions, and risk tolerance breaches; track issues from identification through investigation to closure.
- Prepare and review responses to regulatory requests, inspections, and submissions, ensuring quality and adherence to regulatory expectations.
- Contribute to regulatory engagement activities, coordinate with external stakeholders, and maintain effective working relationships with Central Bank of Kenya and other regulators.
- Prepare compliance dashboards, management information reports, and risk summaries highlighting key trends and issues for internal stakeholders.
- Support enhancements to GRC systems and compliance tools, ensuring accurate data capture and improved monitoring capabilities.
- Deliver training and awareness initiatives on Regulatory Compliance and Conduct topics to build capability across the organisation.
- Coordinate cross-functional Compliance and Conduct activities and ensure effective collaboration between Compliance, Risk, and Business units.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law, business, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), ACAMS, or equivalent qualification.
- 5–8 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or internal audit within the financial services sector.
- Demonstrated experience in compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, or regulatory obligations management.
- Working knowledge of financial services regulatory frameworks, including Central Bank of Kenya requirements, FATF standards, and Basel principles.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance processes, control frameworks, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Ability to review, challenge, and validate compliance outputs and control effectiveness.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving capability with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent stakeholder coordination and communication skills across multiple levels and departments.
- Experience in team supervision and quality assurance of compliance work.
