About the Role

Britam is recruiting a Frontend Developer (1 Year Fixed-Term Contract) to join the Betalab team within the Partnership and Digital department. This is a full-time position based in Kenya where you will take ownership of user-facing application development, from requirements analysis through to deployment and support. You’ll work on designing and building solutions that span database architecture, workflow automation, user interfaces, and API integrations for the Betalab platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Build responsive, interactive, and accessible user interfaces using React.js and modern component architecture.
• Work with designers, backend engineers, and product managers to translate feature requirements into working code.
• Tune application performance across devices, browsers, and network conditions to deliver speed and scalability.
• Write clean, well-documented code that follows established patterns and is maintainable by other developers.
• Connect frontend interfaces to backend services via REST and GraphQL APIs, implementing state management using Redux, Context API, or equivalent libraries.
• Test and validate user experiences across different browsers and devices, ensuring mobile responsiveness.
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning sessions, and agile ceremonies.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve frontend defects in production and development environments.
• Keep pace with shifts in frontend tooling and development practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience in frontend development.
• Demonstrated proficiency with JavaScript (ES6+) and React.js as your primary framework.
• Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and at least one modern CSS framework such as Tailwind, Material UI, or Bootstrap.
• Experience with state management solutions including Redux, Zustand, Recoil, or Context API.
• Hands-on experience integrating with REST APIs and GraphQL endpoints.
• Familiarity with version control using Git, GitHub, or GitLab in a team environment.
• Understanding of build tools and module bundlers such as Webpack, Vite, or Babel.
