Farm Trainer – 2 Posts at Kenya Medical Research – KEMRI – Kenya Medical Research - KEMRI Kenya Job Details
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain study model farms, including organizing demonstration plots for hands-on learning
- Deliver both theoretical and practical training on vegetable production in line with the agriculture training manual
- Monitor farm productivity by maintaining accurate records and tracking produce distribution
- Provide continuous support to participants through farm-based discussions and one-on-one guidance on sustainable farming practices
- Work closely with participants to promote the adoption of best agricultural practices
- Support agricultural input logistics, including pickup and distribution, in collaboration with the Agriculture Training Coordinator
- Collect and manage data, including training attendance, adoption rates, post-training evaluations, and REDCap-based assessments
- Conduct home visit interviews, report on participant progress and challenges, communicate regularly with the Agriculture Training Coordinator, and perform any other assigned duties
Vacancy Requirements:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent Mandatory
- Formal training or certification in general agriculture, or equivalent hands-on experience in agriculture or community-based training Mandatory
- Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience in farming or agricultural extension, preferably working with rural farming communities Mandatory
- Basic knowledge of crop production, soil and water conservation, and integrated pest management practices Mandatory
- Willingness and ability to reside and work in Migori County for a minimum of one year Mandatory
- Strong ability to communicate agricultural concepts clearly in a simple, engaging, and culturally appropriate manner Mandatory
- Experience training smallholder farmers, women groups or youth in agriculture will be an added advantage Added Advantage
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Mandatory
- Demonstrates professionalism, ethical conduct, competence, accountability, and integrity while upholding organizational mission and vision. Mandatory
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask with flexibility in a dynamic work environment. Mandatory
