About the Role

Nova Pioneer is recruiting a Driver for its Nairobi campus to manage student transportation and maintain the school’s vehicle fleet. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Transport Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for safe, punctual operation of school buses, adherence to all transport policies, and routine vehicle maintenance checks. Drivers at Nova Pioneer play a central role in student safety and the reliable execution of daily school operations.

The role requires a professional with extensive school transport experience, valid driving credentials, and demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and student welfare. You will work closely with the Transport Manager and bus assistants to maintain Nova Pioneer’s door-to-door student pick-up and drop-off standards while ensuring all vehicles remain in roadworthy condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate school vehicles safely and efficiently in compliance with all relevant legislation, transport policies and internal procedures
• Maintain the door-to-door pick-up and drop-off policy, ensuring pupils are collected and returned according to schedule
• Follow planned routes and adhere to agreed timings; notify the Transport Manager of any delays, route diversions or incidents immediately
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections covering tyres, oil, radiator coolant and lights; report any vehicle defects or mechanical issues in writing
• Manage fuel allocation according to the fueling schedule and record actual mileage, timings and destinations in the vehicle movement book before each journey
• Maintain order and discipline on the vehicle, work with the bus assistant to ensure passenger safety, and verify all pupils are on board before departure
• Transport students to educational trips, sports events and school activities in a safe manner; keep the allocated vehicle clean and secure at all times
• Follow the school’s emergency policy in case of accidents or incidents; ensure compliance with national and county legal requirements regarding licenses, permits and certificates

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Auto-mechanical or electrical engineering from a recognised institution
• Valid PSV (Public Service Vehicle) License and a Class BCE Driving License held for a minimum of 8 years
• Certificate of Good Conduct dated within the last 6 months
• Minimum 2 years of documented experience in school bus transportation
• Knowledge of highway code and school bus regulations
• First aid knowledge and ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
• Written references from 3 previous employers
• Demonstrated capability to operate a school bus safely, responsibly and with strong client service and communication skills
