Payment systems form the backbone of Kenya’s financial infrastructure, and this position ensures that data flows smoothly from collection through to analysis and reporting. The Business Analyst 1, Data Analysis at Central Bank of Kenya will manage National Payment Systems (NPS) returns, maintain statistical databases, and produce reports that inform policy and operational decisions across the banking sector. This is a technically-focused role that combines database management, statistical analysis, and financial reporting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and design National Payment Systems (NPS) returns templates to ensure data consistency and compliance with Central Bank of Kenya standards.
- Monitor and enforce timely submission of NPS returns from participating institutions and follow up on gaps or delays.
- Build and maintain an integrated system for electronic submission and receipt of NPS returns, ensuring data integrity at entry point.
- Process incoming data, validate accuracy, and generate required standard reports for management and external stakeholders.
- Perform analysis and verification of payment data using statistical techniques to identify anomalies, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and maintain a payment system database, implement data collection protocols, and design analytics workflows that improve statistical quality and efficiency.
- Source additional data from primary and secondary sources to enhance the Central Bank of Kenya’s understanding of payment system performance.
- Filter and clean data by reviewing system reports and performance indicators to locate and correct errors before publication.
- Design and produce periodic analytical reports on payment system trends, presenting findings to management and updating statistics published on the Central Bank of Kenya website.
- Identify process improvement opportunities within data collection, verification, and reporting workflows and recommend solutions to management.
- Collaborate with management to prioritize data and information needs based on regulatory and operational requirements.
- Author research papers and technical reports summarizing data analysis findings and their implications for payment system oversight.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the reporting Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in payments operations, banking, or a related area involving data handling and financial systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work with databases, statistical software, and data analysis tools.
- Proficiency in data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling financial and operational data.
- Ability to interpret complex data sets and communicate findings in written reports.
- Professional certifications or memberships in relevant fields (e.g., professional statistics or data analysis associations) are advantageous.
