Senior Accountant- Business Performance at Wasoko – Wasoko Kenya Job Details

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including Profit and Loss (P&L) accounts, cash flow statements, variance analysis, and explanatory commentaries.
• Evaluate the company’s performance against annual budgets across various countries and departments, providing reports to assist management in making operational decisions.
• Conduct and review ledger and sub ledger reconciliations for all balance sheet items.
• Oversee and review inventory and tax reconciliations.
• Perform audits of financial records to ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and legal requirements.
• Assist in implementing financial controls, including end-of-day and end-of-month procedures, to ensure the integrity of financial data capture and facilitate regular reconciliations.
• Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies.
• Provide operational finance support to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with operational teams to monitor performance against the budget, offering guidance on focus areas and recommending corrective actions.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

• More than 5 years of experience in management reporting or accounting, preferably in the retail sector, either at a company with an annual turnover exceeding $100,000 USD or at a prominent regional or international consulting or accounting firm.
• Prior work experience in East African markets is preferred.
• A degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; an MBA, ACCA, or CPA qualification is desirable.
• Negotiation skills and the ability to establish strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
• A high level of competence in accounting and administration software, with a preference for SAP.
• A collaborative and integrity-driven team player, motivated to work in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken and the ability to communicate effectively in a professional setting.
• A data-driven mindset.
• Prior experience with a high-growth startup is advantageous.
