Freelance Linguists- Swahili-DDD Kenya – DDD Kenya Kenya Job Details

Role Objective:

The Linguist is responsible for maintaining a high standard of quality in translation, copy editing, and on-demand video tasks, ensuring timely completion within set deadlines and quality benchmarks. The role also involves adhering to the Language Process guidelines for task execution.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Perform requested translation tasks promptly.
2. Engage in transcreation, translation, and post-editing assignments.
3. Handle various administrative tasks related to translation.
4. Address project-related queries and concerns.
5. Maintain language resources like glossaries, Style Guides, and work instructions to meet quality standards and keep them up-to-date.
6. Interact with clients on linguistic matters when needed.
7. Foster effective communication among team members, resolving queries on language and terminology.
8. Contribute to the enhancement of work processes.
9. Assist the team in handling arbitrations, RCA, and LQE feedback.
10. Achieve performance goals outlined by the Swahili/Hausa Team Lead.

Qualifications:

1. Hold a university degree in Linguistics or Applied Languages.
2. Exhibit native-level fluency in Swahili, both written and spoken, as well as fluency in English.
3. Additional experience as a translator in fields like Mobile Apps, Search Engines, IT Consumer Products, Entertainment, Marketing, Software UI, and Websites is advantageous.
4. Possess a strong linguistic intuition for both source and target languages.
5. Familiarity with terminology related to IT consumer products, social media, and entertainment.
6. Thorough understanding of the localization process.
7. Proficiency in standard software like Windows, Office applications, and CAT tools such as SDL Studio and XTM.
8. Ability to quickly learn new localization tools and applications.
9. Effective presentation skills for sharing information with managers, clients, customers, and fellow translators.

Additional Skills:

1. Capable of managing tasks within tight timelines.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on interpersonal communication.
3. Willingness and ability to impart knowledge and provide training to others.
4. Comfortable working within a remote team.
