Senior Multimedia Designer at The Digital Monkeys – The Digital Monkeys Kenya Job Details
About the Role
The Digital Monkeys is seeking a Senior Multimedia Designer to join their creative team in Nairobi on a full-time basis. This role sits at the intersection of static design, motion graphics, video production, and campaign asset creation. You will report to the Head of Studio and work across multiple deliverable formats—from social media graphics to animated sequences and client presentations—while managing your own quality assurance and mentoring junior creatives.
The Senior Multimedia Designer at The Digital Monkeys will handle complex, high-value creative work with minimal supervision. The position requires someone who can interpret briefs accurately, flag risks early, maintain tight SLAs, and contribute to process improvements that benefit the wider team. This is not an entry-level role; you’ll be expected to work independently, make judgment calls on format and approach, and support both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Create static designs, motion graphics, video edits, animations, layouts and campaign assets to approved creative direction and brand guidelines.
- Execute complex or high-value assignments with limited oversight, performing thorough self-review before submission to reduce errors and rework cycles.
- Review creative briefs, identify gaps or missing information, and recommend the most suitable formats, tools, production methods and asset sizes in consultation with the Head of Studio or Art Director.
- Flag technical risks, unavailable assets or unrealistic timelines at the earliest opportunity so the team can adjust scope or deadlines accordingly.
- Manage daily workload using Monday.com, prioritize work based on SLA deadlines, update task progress and communicate blockers promptly to keep projects on track.
- Collaborate with Client Service, Digital, Creative and Production teams; prepare clean working files, presentation-ready materials and correctly formatted exports for handover.
- Develop reusable templates, animation presets, file structures and asset libraries that reduce turnaround time and ensure consistency across projects.
- Review junior designer work, provide constructive feedback on technique and execution, and share shortcuts, references and best practices to support team growth.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, HND or Diploma in graphic design, multimedia design, motion graphics, animation, visual communication, digital media or a related creative discipline.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in an agency, creative production or multimedia design environment, with a portfolio demonstrating strong execution across static and motion work.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and Premiere Pro; working knowledge of Google Workspace and Monday.com.
- Solid understanding of static design principles—layout, typography, colour theory and brand application—combined with practical skills in motion graphics, basic video editing and asset adaptation for different digital platforms.
- Ability to write or refine simple captions, headlines, supers, presentation text and basic scripts; comfort suggesting content improvements where relevant.
- Demonstrated speed, attention to detail, reliable self-review habits, strong deadline discipline, organized file management and clear communication of blockers.
- Creative mindset paired with reliability, flexibility, willingness to accept feedback, composure under pressure and genuine commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
What to Expect
- A team that values clarity and direct feedback over small talk; leadership that disagrees with ideas it doesn’t believe in and expects the same honesty from you.
- Exposure to a variety of client and internal projects, from quick-turnaround social assets to complex campaign productions, with the autonomy to make decisions about creative approach.
