About the Role

Kabarak University is recruiting three Content Digitization Interns to support the conversion of academic materials into digital learning resources. This internship in Nairobi offers hands-on experience in educational technology, learning management systems, and multimedia content development. You will work on transforming lecture notes, assessments, and reference materials into interactive, web-based learning objects that meet industry standards for accessibility and compliance.

The role sits at the intersection of instructional design and software development. You’ll gain practical exposure to SCORM standards, learning management platforms, and AI-powered tools for content processing. This is suited for graduates or final-year students with technical foundations in computer science, IT, or educational technology who want to build a portfolio in digital learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convert academic content including lecture notes, course manuals, assessments, and past papers into interactive, SCORM-compliant resources suitable for deployment on the learning management system.
  • Build interactive learning objects using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, H5P, and Articulate Storyline, with integration into Moodle or equivalent LMS platforms.
  • Implement AI tools in digitization workflows, including optical character recognition, transcription services, automated captioning, and metadata generation for searchability.
  • Produce multimedia learning resources such as instructional videos, custom graphics, animations, interactive quizzes, and simulations.
  • Verify that all digitized materials meet quality assurance benchmarks, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines compliance, copyright requirements, and SCORM technical specifications.
  • Participate in testing cycles and quality assurance activities for digital learning platforms and AI-assisted content processing workflows.
  • Assist academic staff with uploading, configuring, and publishing online resources, and provide technical support for learning management system operations.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Educational Technology, or a closely related discipline. First Class or Upper Second division grades are preferred. Relevant professional certifications are advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript for web-based content development.
  • Familiarity with server-side languages such as PHP or Python.
  • Hands-on experience or solid understanding of Moodle, learning management systems, authoring tools including H5P, Articulate Storyline, or Adobe Captivate, and version control with Git or GitHub.
  • Competence with REST APIs, productivity-focused AI tools, and basic multimedia editing software.
  • Strong analytical and detail-oriented approach, creative problem-solving ability, effective communication skills, capacity to work independently under time constraints, willingness to learn emerging AI technologies, and demonstrated integrity.
  • Membership in a recognised professional body such as Computer Society of Kenya, IEEE, ACM, ISACA, or ICTA is valued. Prior participation in hackathons or open-source projects strengthens candidacy.
  • Portfolio evidence such as a GitHub repository, personal portfolio website, deployed web applications, LMS-hosted content, SCORM or H5P packages, or multimedia design samples.
