About the Role

World Resources Institute (WRI) is recruiting an Employee Relations Advisor for its Nairobi office on a full-time basis. This is a hybrid role that supports WRI’s commitment to maintaining a safe, equitable, and inclusive workplace across its East African operations. The position sits within the broader Human Resource function and requires someone with substantial experience in workplace investigations and employee relations policy implementation.

The organisation operates across multiple countries and requires HR professionals who understand both international workplace standards and local employment law. This Employee Relations Advisor at World Resources Institute (WRI) role is critical to ensuring that WRI’s values are upheld consistently across all staff interactions and dispute resolution processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead impartial investigations into workplace complaints and allegations of misconduct, ensuring fair and consistent treatment of all parties involved.
  • Prepare detailed written investigation reports that document findings, evidence review, and recommendations for resolution.
  • Support and guide HR colleagues in regional offices to conduct investigations within their areas of responsibility, ensuring consistency with global standards.
  • Manage the full investigation workflow from initial intake through final outcome, tracking progress and maintaining documentation at each stage.
  • Execute decisions arising from investigation outcomes, including implementation of corrective actions and any necessary long-term monitoring.
  • Stay current with internal governance frameworks, compliance obligations, reporting requirements, and employment law across East Africa.
  • Maintain confidentiality throughout all investigation phases and ensure HR records are complete, accurate, and compliant with legal retention requirements.
  • Conduct staff training on workplace policies and procedures to support effective implementation of WRI’s Safe, Equitable and Inclusive Workplace policy.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships across the organisation to strengthen employee relations and engagement.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Law, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, or related HR discipline, ideally across multiple countries.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex workplace investigations, including evidence gathering and witness interviews.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, labour regulations, and compliance requirements in Kenya and the broader East Africa region.
  • Proficiency in conducting investigatory interviews with sensitivity, objectivity, and professional judgment.
  • Excellent written communication skills with ability to produce clear, logical investigation reports and official correspondence.
  • Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills to explain findings and policy requirements to staff at all organisational levels.
  • Solid analytical capability to assess complex workplace issues, interpret regulations, and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • High interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and ability to work effectively with diverse employee populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard HR management systems.
  • Current work authorisation in Kenya; WRI cannot sponsor work visas for this position.
  • Prior experience in international non-profit organisations is preferred.
