About the Role

Tugende is recruiting a Field Technician to join its operations team across multiple locations in Kenya. This is a full-time, onsite position based in Busia, Eldoret, Kisumu, Machakos, Meru, Mombasa, Nakuru, or Thika. The Field Technician at Tugende will manage the receipt, maintenance, tracking, and disbursement of company assets—primarily motorcycles and vehicles—while maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring all equipment meets operational standards.

Tugende is a for-profit social enterprise established in 2012, operating in Uganda and Kenya. The organisation uses asset finance, technology, and customer-focused methods to support informal sector entrepreneurs. With over 460 staff members and more than 30,000 clients served, Tugende continues to expand its reach across East Africa. This Field Technician position is critical to keeping assets in the field, functional, and traceable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect all incoming company assets upon delivery, assess mechanical condition, and document receipt via signed delivery notes, reporting any damaged or faulty items to the Branch Executive and Procurement Officer.
  • Record newly received assets and accessories into the ERP system immediately after offloading, ensuring all items are branded, stored securely, and organised for swift access during disbursement.
  • Maintain branch inventory records with precise asset details—brand, colour, and value—in the ERP system and ensure physical stock aligns with system records at all times.
  • Uninstall GPS trackers from completed assets, monitor GPS stock levels, and liaise with procurement to maintain adequate supply for new asset installations.
  • Generate picking lists from the ERP, ensure client signatures are obtained, and maintain organised records of all delivery notes, picking lists, and spare parts documentation in both physical and digital formats.
  • Perform daily reconciliation between physical stock and the ERP system to identify and address any discrepancies or asset losses.
  • Inspect client and staff assets before servicing, record findings in the CRM database, and maintain all assets in working condition while tracking their status on the Tugende dashboard.
  • Meet assigned monthly sales targets and ensure all disbursed assets are picked, packed, and ready for collection on the scheduled disbursement date.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Automobile Engineering, or Motor Vehicle Mechanics from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum one year of verified working experience as a mechanic or electrician with a reputable organisation or training institute.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in motorcycle and car assembly, repair, and maintenance work.
  • A valid and current motorbike riding licence (mandatory).
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams and manuals accurately.
  • Proficiency with mobile tools and applications for asset tracking and system updates.
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols specific to motorcycles, including electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazard awareness.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to flexible or changing work schedules as needed.
