About the Role

Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL) is recruiting a Blender for its manufacturing operations in Nairobi. This is a full-time position within the Engineering category, based at the company’s production facility. KWAL is the region’s leading manufacturer and distributor of wines and spirits across Kenya, Eastern and Central Africa, operating to international quality and safety standards.

As a Blender at Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL), you will be responsible for converting raw materials into finished cider beverages while maintaining strict compliance with formulations, quality specifications, food safety standards, and Heineken protocols. The role combines technical precision with quality assurance, requiring hands-on involvement in every stage of the liquid manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct sensory evaluation of raw materials and processed water prior to use in primary manufacturing, and perform sensory analysis of converted liquid at multiple manufacturing stages to verify quality consistency throughout the production cycle.
  • Transform raw materials into ready-to-package cider beverages in full compliance with Standard Recipes, Quality Specifications, Product Legal Standards, Food Safety Standards, and Heineken Standards while adhering to good manufacturing practices.
  • Execute blending calculations accurately, ensuring that input quantity and quality are correctly loaded into each blend as per specifications.
  • Assess process inputs, tanks, equipment, and final product to confirm that desired quality and food safety standards are achieved and sustained.
  • Monitor and review critical control points (CCPs) and Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRPs) to ensure controls remain within acceptable limits and required verifications are completed in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Track and manage liquid conversion efficiencies—including speed, cost, and quality—to optimise the effectiveness of the manufacturing process.
  • Identify root causes of problems related to equipment, processes, or product quality within assigned production units.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on primary manufacturing, quality, sustainability, water conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling.
  • Maintain the integrity, quality, safety, consistency, and sterility of the processing environment and equipment, and uphold confidentiality of product formulations.
  • Support all safety programs and policies to protect product integrity, personal safety, company property, and team member wellbeing; report incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe behaviours promptly.
  • Engage in Cellar DCS and other Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities, tag management, and unified problem-solving sessions to drive operational efficiency.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of beverage manufacturing processes, quality control standards, and food safety compliance.
  • Familiarity with critical control points (CCPs), Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRPs), and standard manufacturing protocols.
  • Competence in sensory evaluation and assessment of liquid products.
  • Ability to use blending calculators and operate production equipment accurately.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, including knowledge of and compliance with site safety rules and Heineken Safety Commitments.
  • Willingness to participate in continuous improvement, waste minimization, and problem-solving initiatives.
