About the Role

Safaricom Kenya is recruiting a Manager – IT Networks for its Nairobi headquarters. This full-time position reports to the Senior Manager of Converged Network Support and carries responsibility for the design, maintenance, and operation of the organisation’s entire network infrastructure. The role bridges technical network management with strategic oversight, requiring both hands-on expertise and leadership capability across a complex telecommunications environment.

As Kenya’s leading provider of converged communication solutions, Safaricom operates one of the country’s most critical network infrastructures. The Manager – IT Networks will oversee systems serving thousands of users across offices, branch locations, retail outlets, and support facilities. This is a senior technical role suitable for IT professionals with substantial networking experience and proven management credentials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of all network infrastructure systems including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), wireless systems, and internet connectivity.
  • Administer and optimise the LAN environment across Safaricom Kenya offices, including configuration, load balancing, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Manage WAN connectivity to branch offices, retail shops, and customer care centres, ensuring reliable inter-site communication and bandwidth allocation.
  • Operate and maintain the Cisco Unified Communications environment and manage video conferencing systems, including capacity planning and trend analysis.
  • Enforce information security policies across internet and extranet perimeters; manage secure remote access for employees, partners, contractors, and system integrators.
  • Direct network infrastructure operations within colocation and data centre facilities, coordinating with hosting providers and infrastructure teams.
  • Lead project teams on network design and implementation; provide technical recommendations to business units and ensure projects deliver within budget and schedule.
  • Develop team capabilities through mentoring, coaching, and structured learning initiatives; drive continuous improvement through process automation and adoption of latest approved technologies.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computing, Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in networked environments, with at least 2 years in a management or senior technical leadership capacity.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification required; ITIL Foundation certification preferred.
  • Project Management certification (such as PMP or equivalent) required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with Cisco LAN and WAN platforms, Cisco IOS, and related network hardware.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, make sound decisions under pressure, and solve complex technical problems.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; basic accounting knowledge preferred for budget management.
