About the Role
Kenya Airways, Africa’s leading airline operating flights to more African destinations than any competitor, is recruiting an Applications Administrator for its Nairobi headquarters. This full-time position sits within the IT department and focuses on maintaining the stability, security, and performance of critical corporate systems and applications. The successful candidate will manage daily system operations, resolve technical issues, and ensure business continuity across the airline’s technology infrastructure.
The Applications Administrator at Kenya Airways will be central to keeping the organization’s systems running reliably. You will work across database management, system administration, and application support—coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to maintain service levels and prevent operational disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage user access controls by provisioning, modifying, and removing user accounts; conduct periodic access reviews to ensure compliance with security policies and audit requirements.
- Monitor system and user availability across all corporate applications, ensuring performance stays well above agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
- Collaborate with the Problem Manager to identify system trends, determine root causes of issues, and resolve problems within defined SLA timeframes.
- Maintain database management systems by installing patch upgrades and security updates to protect system integrity and resilience.
- Perform proactive monitoring of application and system performance metrics using appropriate reporting and monitoring tools; conduct regular event correlation and trend analysis.
- Coordinate with external software and hardware suppliers to ensure they meet contracted SLA commitments.
- Oversee backup and recovery policies and procedures, communicating with technical and operational staff to maintain IT service continuity.
- Support system upgrades, modifications, and customizations by coordinating with vendors, end-users, and internal IT resources; recommend and implement productivity improvements and cost-reduction tools.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Oracle Database Administration certification.
- Oracle SOA Suite Administration or Development certification, or demonstrable hands-on experience in this area.
- Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) certification or practical experience developing and supporting ETL and integration processes.
- Oracle APEX (Application Express) development and administration capabilities.
- Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) administration and report/dashboard support experience.
- Solid knowledge of Oracle Database administration concepts, SQL, and PL/SQL; ITIL Foundation Certification; and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer qualification.
- Unix/Linux administration knowledge; cloud administration certification and practical experience; and a minimum of three years’ experience administering systems in a similar environment.
