About the Role

Mini Group is recruiting an Assistant Safety, Health & Environment Officer for its Nairobi office on a full-time basis. This is a support role within the occupational health and safety function, designed for professionals with 1–2 years of experience in workplace safety compliance. You will work under the supervision of the Safety, Health & Environment Officer to maintain compliance with Kenyan regulations including OSHA 2007, NEMA, and WIBA across one of East Africa’s most diversified conglomerates.

Mini Group operates across multiple sectors—baking, real estate, construction, telecommunications, energy, auto spares, hospitality, manufacturing, trading, and microfinance. This breadth of operations means you will gain exposure to varied workplace environments and safety challenges. The Assistant Safety, Health & Environment Officer at Mini Group will be instrumental in keeping staff, contractors, and visitors safe while ensuring the organisation meets its legal and policy obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, review, and rollout of safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and systems across the organisation, and maintain all emergency response plans and related documentation.
  • Conduct routine health and safety inspections, audits, and compliance assessments; monitor staff, visitors, contractors, and third parties to confirm adherence to company safety rules and site regulations.
  • Identify workplace hazards, track near misses and incident reports, log accidents, and gather preliminary data and witness statements to support formal accident investigations.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning, organise fire drills, assemble emergency teams, and facilitate safety preparedness exercises throughout the company.
  • Serve as secretary to the HSE Committee by organising meeting agendas, recording minutes, distributing action items, and tracking the completion of recommendations.
  • Support induction training for new hires, contractors, and visitors, and help coordinate first aid, fire fighting, and occupational health and safety training programmes.
  • Maintain inventory of personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and safety signage; keep accurate physical and digital records of all SHE documentation for audit readiness.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports covering incidents, hazard registers, inspection findings, and overall safety performance for review by the SHE Officer.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 1–2 years of documented work experience in workplace safety compliance, ideally in a multi-site or regulated environment.
  • Professional certification in Environment, Health and Safety, or active progress toward professional body registration (advantageous).
  • Working knowledge of Kenyan health and safety legislation, including OSHA 2007, NEMA regulations, and WIBA requirements.
  • Competence in data collation, incident tracking systems, compliance record-keeping, and the preparation of safety reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and teams.
  • Excellent organisational ability, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple safety tasks simultaneously.
  • High standard of professional integrity, confidentiality, and accountability in all safety matters.
