About the Role
Equity Bank Kenya is recruiting an Assistant Manager-Compliance Testing for its Nairobi headquarters. This is a full-time position within the Compliance function, designed to support the delivery of independent second-line assurance across the bank’s branch network and operational units. The Assistant Manager-Compliance Testing will work closely with senior compliance leadership to conduct onsite and offsite testing activities, analyse findings, and track remediation efforts. Key Responsibilities
- Execute risk-based onsite and offsite compliance testing engagements aligned to the approved testing plan and the bank’s established compliance testing methodology.
- Perform technical compliance testing and control effectiveness assessments across business units, branches, and functional departments within Equity Bank Kenya.
- Conduct data analysis and validation for offsite testing activities, ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of data sources used in compliance reviews.
- Prepare clear and concise testing reports in collaboration with the Manager-Compliance Testing, documenting findings, root causes, risk ratings, and recommendations that align with ERMF reporting standards.
- Monitor compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for testing schedules, reporting timelines, and remediation action deadlines across all testing engagements.
- Maintain and update issues logs and remediation tracking systems, driving timely closure of identified control gaps and compliance breaches.
- Conduct validation and re-testing of remedial actions to confirm that controls operate effectively and that corrective measures are sustainable.
- Escalate high-risk findings, regulatory breaches, and overdue remediation actions in accordance with the escalation matrix and governance framework.
- Support thematic compliance reviews, deep-dive assessments, and regulatory inspection readiness activities (including Central Bank of Kenya reviews).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any field; professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or ICA qualifications are advantageous.
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in Compliance, Risk management, Internal Audit, or Assurance roles within a regulated institution.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience in compliance testing or control assurance engagements.
- Demonstrated experience in risk-based testing execution, control effectiveness reviews, data-driven compliance analysis, and remediation validation is an added advantage.
- Sound understanding of risk-based compliance testing frameworks, ERMF principles, and banking regulatory requirements in Kenya.
- Proficiency with control testing and sampling methodologies, data analysis tools, compliance scoring models, and reporting platforms.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and report writing skills with the ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- High level of integrity, independence, and objectivity in assessing control effectiveness and compliance posture across the organisation.
- Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills; ability to drive timely remediation and accountability for control improvements.
