About the Role
ICRHK is recruiting 26 Resident Enumerators for a temporary research assignment spanning 4 to 6 weeks. This position is based in Tharaka Nithi and involves field-based data collection across selected communities in support of the What Works department. The role suits candidates with prior experience in household surveys, community research, NGO fieldwork, or government data collection programmes.
As a Resident Enumerator at ICRHK, you will be stationed within your assigned area to gather high-quality survey data from eligible households and respondents. You will work under county-level supervision alongside CREAW Kenya field staff and local community leaders to ensure research activities progress on schedule and meet study standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, locate, and conduct interviews with eligible respondents within assigned villages according to approved research protocols.
- Screen and recruit eligible participants from selected households using established sampling procedures and enrolment criteria.
- Secure informed consent from each participant before administering any survey instruments or questionnaires.
- Administer questionnaires with accuracy and professionalism using approved data collection tools and methodologies.
- Review completed survey forms before departing each respondent’s location to verify accuracy, completeness, and internal consistency.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of respondent information and adhere to ethical standards, safeguarding protocols, and data protection requirements.
- Report daily progress, field challenges, incidents, and any irregularities to your Field Supervisor or team lead.
- Upload and submit collected data daily following supervisor review and feedback; meet assigned daily productivity targets.
- Participate in training sessions, team meetings, daily briefings, debriefings, and progress reporting activities.
- Ensure proper use and secure storage of all project equipment, devices, and materials throughout the assignment.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completed secondary school education with a minimum KCSE grade of C or above.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in field data collection, household interviews, community surveys, research assignments, NGO projects, government surveys, or donor-funded programmes.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili; ability to communicate in relevant local languages spoken in Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties is required.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews professionally, respectfully, and without bias.
- Strong attention to detail with capacity to follow research protocols and field instructions accurately.
- Ability to work independently, walk extensively within assigned locations, and work under minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms such as REDCap, KoboToolbox, or SurveyCTO is advantageous.
- Prior experience with NGO jobs in Kenya, KDHS, KNBS surveys, or research institutions is highly desirable.
