About the Role
Corporate Staffing Service is recruiting a Service Technician for a full-time position based in Nairobi. This is a field-based role supporting a well-established technical services company that specialises in calibration, maintenance, and after-sales support for analytical, process, and laboratory equipment across food and beverage, brewing, pharmaceutical, and grain processing sectors. The Service Technician Job (60K) requires a technically competent professional with proven hands-on experience in instrumentation repair, fault diagnosis, and calibration work at client sites.
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will manage installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and validation of a range of analytical, process, and laboratory instruments deployed across multiple industrial and laboratory environments. This role sits at the interface between field service excellence and measurement precision, requiring both electromechanical capability and meticulous documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake scheduled preventive maintenance and reactive corrective maintenance on analytical, process, and laboratory instruments at client facilities, including dissolved gas meters, turbidity meters, photometers, pH/conductivity transmitters, laboratory balances, NIR analysers, and online gas detectors.
- Diagnose equipment faults and conduct root cause analysis using appropriate tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, pressure calibrators, and loop calibrators; replace defective components including PCBs, sensors, actuators, pumps, and display modules.
- Perform traceable calibration of instruments against reference standards, applying GUM (JCGM 100:2008) and EURAMET calibration guidelines; maintain comprehensive calibration records and traceability chains in line with quality system requirements.
- Verify 4–20 mA analog output loop integrity and SCADA/DCS signal performance on process instruments following service completion; document and communicate out-of-tolerance findings using a structured severity classification (CRITICAL, MAJOR, ADVISORY).
- Produce detailed, client-ready service and calibration reports documenting instrument identification, faults observed, corrective measures, calibration results, measurement uncertainties, and post-service recommendations suitable for quality assurance and regulatory audit review.
- Serve as the primary technical contact during client site visits, provide operator training on instrument usage and basic troubleshooting, and identify opportunities for calibration contracts, spare parts, and equipment upgrades.
- Respond to emergency field callouts within agreed SLA timeframes; adhere to site-specific health, safety, and environment requirements including confined space protocols, ATEX/IECEx equipment selection, GMP/GHP compliance, and permit-to-work documentation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Applied Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on field service experience with analytical, process, or laboratory instrumentation in industrial or laboratory settings, with demonstrable experience servicing at least two instrument categories (dissolved gas analysers, turbidity/photometry meters, pH/conductivity transmitters, laboratory balances, or NIR/grain analysers).
- Competency reading and interpreting electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and technical data sheets; proficiency with diagnostic instruments including digital multimeters, clamp meters, pressure calibrators, HART communicators, and oscilloscopes.
- Valid driving license (Class B/BCE) with the ability to travel frequently to client sites across Nairobi and surrounding regions.
- Strong written English with proven ability to produce accurate, legible, and professionally structured technical service reports.
- Prior experience in food, beverage, brewing, dairy, or grain processing sectors is advantageous.
What to Expect
