Contract type: Internship
Duration of contract: 2 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the hosting division. The internship may be conducted in person or remotely, depending on the division’s requirements.
Organization unit: Only candidates who do NOT currently receive financial support may be eligible for a stipend.

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) leads and inspires the world to achieve its shared vision of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths. A stipend may be offered by UNAIDS to assist interns with living expenses, but only to candidates who are NOT already receiving financial support.

Interns will receive general medical illness, accident, and emergency illness coverage insurance.

Requirements: Candidates applying for internships at UNAIDS must be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree program at a recognized educational institution, OR have completed a course of study and received an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree from a recognized educational institution within the past year. Recent graduates should be prepared to commence their internship within 12 months of their graduation date.

Contractual terms and conditions:

  • Ability to work effectively in teams, adapt and integrate seamlessly with the team, and collaborate cooperatively to support team objectives.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly and convincingly in one-on-one discussions or group presentations. Proficiency in producing clear correspondence and written reports.
  • Capability to apply knowledge and skills effectively to the job, consistently learn, and enhance performance.
  • Demonstrated initiative and enthusiasm in work, efficient time organization and management, and delivery of high-quality results aligned with agreed-upon objectives.
  • Innovative thinking and the ability to find new approaches to work and enhance results while maintaining a strong service orientation.
  • Taking ownership of assigned responsibilities, being productive, fulfilling commitments, and using resources responsibly.

Additional Information: Candidates must be at least 20 years of age or older at the date of application and possess a working knowledge (both oral and written) of at least one of the WHO/UNAIDS’s official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) as required in the internship office. Candidates should hold a valid passport/ID from a WHO/UNAIDS Member State. Individuals with immediate family members employed by the UNAIDS Secretariat (e.g., son/daughter, brother/sister, or mother/father) are not eligible for internships. UNAIDS may offer internships only to candidates who have NOT previously participated in UNAIDS’ internship program.
