Job Overview:

The role of Temporary IT Assistant involves providing essential support services to AERC’s staff members. This includes resolving issues through the service desk, troubleshooting system problems, monitoring system and network performance, and assisting with AERC’s events. The position will be located in Nairobi, Kenya.

Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Support:
    • Address inquiries from end-users regarding computer software, hardware, network, and peripheral equipment issues.
    • Resolve technical problems promptly and escalate complex issues to the appropriate IT personnel.
  2. IT Helpdesk Support:
    • Provide responsive operational support in line with defined SLAs.
    • Ensure timely assistance through the IT helpdesk.
  3. Hardware and Software:
    • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
    • Set up workstations, printers, scanners, and other IT equipment.
  4. System Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including software updates, patches, and backups.
    • Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and take corrective actions.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate documentation of IT assets, procedures, and configurations.
    • Create reports and documentation as required.
  6. IT Inventory Management:
    • Assist in managing and maintaining an inventory of hardware, software licenses, and other IT assets.
  7. Training and Support:
    • Train end-users on effective and secure computer system usage.
    • Conduct user training sessions and create user-friendly documentation.
  8. Technology Awareness:
    • Stay updated on technology trends and industry best practices.
    • Recommend improvements to the existing IT infrastructure.
  9. Additional Responsibilities:
    • Undertake tasks directed by the IT Specialist and IT Administrator.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in software development and IT user support.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven experience in technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, software applications, and networking.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Office suite, and common business software.
  • Basic understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
  • Proficiency in resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Efficient time management and task prioritization.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with precision.
