JOB SUMMARY
Main Purpose: The incumbent in this role will ensure the company’s tax compliance and reporting by preparing accurate tax returns within deadlines and establishing robust controls to prevent potential tax liabilities. Additionally, they will oversee preparations for the annual statutory audit and other tax audits as needed.
Main Responsibilities / Tasks:
- Prepare monthly computations, returns, and payments for VAT, WHT, and WVAT within statutory timeframes.
- Address defaulter notices related to inconsistent VAT returns, engage with KRA (Kenya Revenue Authority) regarding these inconsistencies, and resolve them within stipulated timelines.
- Pursue VAT refunds with the Kenya Revenue Authority, including communication and meetings when necessary.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to reconcile tax-related GL accounts, addressing any exceptions monthly.
- Timely resolution of tax-related queries from vendors and customers.
- File quarterly self-assessments and annual returns on schedule.
- Apply for the company’s tax compliance certificate as needed.
- Work with the Accounting Manager to establish grounds for objecting to KRA assessment orders.
- Compile and provide supporting information to KRA and external tax auditors during tax audits.
- Ensure accurate computation of annual tax and deferred tax, in coordination with the Accounting Manager.
- Assist in identifying process improvements that enhance proper tax planning.
- Contribute to ad hoc project management as requested by the Accounting Manager.
- Uphold adherence to company internal control policies and procedures.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Accurate and timely VAT, withholding VAT, and withholding Tax returns.
- Prompt payment of withholding Tax and withholding VAT to KRA.
- Complete reconciliation of VAT and GL Accounts.
- Timely filing of self-assessments and annual returns.
- Consistent VAT refunds from KRA.
- Resolution of all VAT inconsistency reports.
- Provision of necessary documents during tax audits.
- Prevention of tax exposures leading to fines or penalties from KRA.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience:
- 3-5 years of relevant taxation and compliance experience in a dynamic finance or audit setting.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related business field.
- Full professional qualification in accounting such as CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel Advanced, and PowerPoint).
