Key Roles and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:
- Research, plan, and develop on-air content, ideas, and concepts in alignment with the station’s strategy and values.
- Engage in on-air presentation and continuity, incorporating listener feedback.
- Draft broadcasting reports and manage commercial logs.
- Conduct music research, identify suitable music for the station’s sound, and make recommendations.
- Participate in outside broadcasting and road shows, as well as representing the station at various events.
- Receive briefs from clients, marketers, or supervisors and execute tasks accordingly.
- Script, record, package, and produce station features.
- Creatively develop and implement on-air gaming elements.
- Host sports shows and maintain close contact with sports news sources.
- Generate ideas for sports stories and cross-promote the company’s online and traditional product lines.
- Conceptualize and execute online campaigns for various projects.
- Ensure regular updates on all social media platforms.
- Provide input to supervisors on emerging trends in online tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy.
- Collaborate with digital sales officers to create commercializable campaigns.
- Research, prepare, and deliver sports bulletins on Sulwe FM.
- Edit audio clips to ensure conformity with the station’s style and ethical standards.
- Conduct interviews with news sources and write sports stories for Citizen Digital.
- Stay updated on local and international sports events.
- Offer guidance to Sulwe Correspondents regarding appropriate sports story angles.
- Fulfill any other programming and editorial duties assigned by line supervisors.
Skills and Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualities:
- Proficiency in spoken and written Bukusu, English, and Swahili, with a captivating radio voice and personality, as well as a keen ear for music.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, with minimal supervision.
- Social media proficiency, along with innovation and creativity.
- Understanding of media law and ethics.
- Display professionalism, enthusiasm, commitment, honesty, trustworthiness, and loyalty.
- Keep updated on evolving trends through continuous professional education in digital platforms.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- A university degree in journalism, mass communication, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Presenter, Newsreader, Reporter, or Subeditor in a reputable radio station.
- Proficiency in social media, innovation, and creativity.
