AMI is seeking an experienced Product Lead – SME to take charge of managing AMI’s suite of products designed to empower ambitious SMEs across Africa. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that AMI’s core SME products align closely with customer needs and market demands. Collaborating with business development and learning teams, you will define solutions, assess outcomes, and develop new product ideas, including support for costing and business models. As the go-to person for all things SME and Entrepreneurship-related, you will be an expert in the product domain.

Product Lead Responsibilities
- Strategically drive the development, market launch, ongoing support, and improvement of core learning products for SMEs.
- Manage the entire product portfolio for Entrepreneurship.
- Define the vision and roadmap for the product, including the core focus, product mix (languages, specializations, modes of delivery), and competitive positioning.
- Gain a deep understanding of customers and the market by conducting user personas for both end-learners and clients/customers.
- Collaborate with partnerships and leadership to conduct regular competition analysis and inform product pricing models.
- Work across different business lines to support new product market opportunities, providing input to proposals, papers, and presentations.
- Establish strong feedback loops to gather, analyze, and prioritize product feedback, ensuring continuous improvement of the core product.
- Utilize data to understand product performance and shape the future of the product, setting and monitoring core product success metrics.
- Drive the delivery of new products in collaboration with the product ops/dev team, existing learning team, and manage the release process, including internal and external communication support.
- Handle the end-of-life phase, including offboarding and discontinuation of obsolete learning products, programs, languages, and modes of delivery.
Product Lead Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in agile product development and/or learning design.
- Experience in learning development/content development or product development, ideally with an SME/Entrepreneurship or learning focus.
- Strong people management skills, with experience managing diverse teams of specialists.
- A master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to consider candidates from any country, with preference given to African nationals.
- Candidates must be willing to live in Africa, with Nairobi preferred, and be open to travel across the continent.
Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience in Product Management processes, utilizing customer insights, data, and feedback to make strategic product decisions.
- Familiarity with product or learning design and the ideation and development of solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High proficiency and productivity in G Suite tools, including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.
- Ability to work independently and manage diverse teams, fostering collaborative workflows across different groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills, culturally adept, and effective communication with local and international teams and stakeholders.
- Willingness to engage in robust debate while maintaining a deep respect for others.
- Demonstrated rock-solid integrity.
