Inpatient Billing Nurse at Avenue Healthcare

Key Responsibilities

1. Review patients’ billing statements daily, including those who have been discharged, to ensure accuracy and completeness before finalizing the invoices.
2. Verify that all services documented in the patient’s chart are properly billed and seek clarification from attending clinicians for any additional services rendered.
3. Address incoming billing queries from patients, insurance companies, consultants, or colleagues in a professional and efficient manner.
4. Collect, analyze, and summarize data and trends related to third-party billings, outstanding accounts, and late charges, and provide this billing information.
5. Prepare billing statements for insurance companies, patients, and other third parties.
6. Generate reports and respond to inquiries related to billing activities.
7. Participate in audits, service evaluations, and process reviews to improve the quality of billing services provided to customers and stakeholders.
8. Ensure accurate posting of all patient encounters and procedures with up-to-date ICD and CPT codes.
9. Focus on client satisfaction, including patients, consultants, and others, by delivering high-quality care, effective communication, timely feedback, and escalation of unresolved issues.
10. Supervise staff education, including orientation and training, to enhance performance in patient billing.
11. Adhere to Avenue Healthcare’s corporate governance policies, including fraud detection and reporting, and implement audit recommendations.
12. Maintain adequate knowledge of and compliance with all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially those related to medical services provision.
13. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in accordance with the job description.

Personal Specifications

• Hold a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BsN).
• Possess a valid Nursing License from NCK (Nursing Council of Kenya).
• Finance training (CPA III) is highly desirable.
• Have a minimum of 1 year of nursing experience and at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Demonstrate customer-focused behavior.
• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, teamwork abilities, and effective communication.
• Be highly responsive, ethical, and responsible.
