Job Objective/Purpose of the Inpatient Billing Nurse
To ensure accurate and complete billing of inpatient services in accordance with Avenue Healthcare’s defined policies, procedures, standards, and strategies
Key Responsibilities
- Review patients’ billing statements daily, including those who have been discharged, to ensure accuracy and completeness before finalizing the invoices.
- Verify that all services documented in the patient’s chart are properly billed and seek clarification from attending clinicians for any additional services rendered.
- Address incoming billing queries from patients, insurance companies, consultants, or colleagues in a professional and efficient manner.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data and trends related to third-party billings, outstanding accounts, and late charges, and provide this billing information.
- Prepare billing statements for insurance companies, patients, and other third parties.
- Generate reports and respond to inquiries related to billing activities.
- Participate in audits, service evaluations, and process reviews to improve the quality of billing services provided to customers and stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate posting of all patient encounters and procedures with up-to-date ICD and CPT codes.
- Focus on client satisfaction, including patients, consultants, and others, by delivering high-quality care, effective communication, timely feedback, and escalation of unresolved issues.
- Supervise staff education, including orientation and training, to enhance performance in patient billing.
- Adhere to Avenue Healthcare’s corporate governance policies, including fraud detection and reporting, and implement audit recommendations.
- Maintain adequate knowledge of and compliance with all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially those related to medical services provision.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in accordance with the job description.
Personal Specifications
- Hold a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BsN).
- Possess a valid Nursing License from NCK (Nursing Council of Kenya).
- Finance training (CPA III) is highly desirable.
- Have a minimum of 1 year of nursing experience and at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrate customer-focused behavior.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, teamwork abilities, and effective communication.
- Be highly responsive, ethical, and responsible.
