About the Role

DHL is recruiting for a Head Of Road Freight-Kenya position based in Mombasa. This is a full-time senior management role leading the road freight operations across Kenya’s logistics network. The successful candidate will oversee customer relationships, operational performance, and strategic growth initiatives within DHL’s freight division, reporting directly to regional leadership.

The Head Of Road Freight-Kenya at DHL manages a complex portfolio spanning customer engagement, carrier partnerships, operational standards, and team leadership. You will drive profitability, ensure compliance with corporate and local regulatory requirements, and represent DHL in interactions with key accounts and government bodies. This role is critical to DHL’s presence in Kenya’s Driving & Logistics sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, develop and maintain sustainable customer relationships; respond to inquiries and complaints with accountability for achieving Industrial Project customer business targets.
• Lead strategic engagements with Key Account contacts and coordinate cross-departmental delivery of quality service to major clients.
• Oversee the transport management portal, manage carrier contracts and performance, and ensure adherence to Preferred Carrier policies in line with corporate and local requirements.
• Define, monitor and enforce operational targets, service standards and quality benchmarks across production units and traffic management functions.
• Develop effective pricing strategies that sustain profitable growth; establish and monitor KPIs with country management commitment.
• Manage cost structures and drive continuous improvement initiatives; analyse production costs and propose cost management solutions including make-or-buy decisions.
• Define and implement ISO standards aligned with corporate directives and ensure compliance with security regulations and country-mandated requirements.
• Support product knowledge sharing and internal development initiatives; facilitate participation with trade bodies and government agencies to maintain healthy stakeholder relationships.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a related field (BA/BSc/HND).
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the logistics industry.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Product Management or Value Added Services within logistics.
• Proven experience in a management or leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of road freight operations, forwarding business practices and logistics product portfolios.
• Demonstrated ability to manage EBIT results at country level and drive cost control and improvement measures.
• Experience managing teams, determining organisational structure, developing performance targets and conducting performance appraisals.
